In the year 1938 a new comicgenre was created by the introduction of the Comicbookcharacter Superman by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. Due to the popularity, which experienced these comics at the time of the recession, the publisher of National Publications, today’s DC Comics, ask the Artist Bob Kane to arrange a further Comichero. With the assistance of the scripter Bill finger the two developed the Bat-Man, a dark comichero, which could not have been more opposite to the figure of Superman.
Neither Patriot nor alien, Batman fight the crime in the large city jungle of the fictitious city Gotham City. Batman was not that shiny superhero, at the end of the stories Batman even kill his opponents. The Batman Comics were great hits. The editions rose and to make the series attractive for the young readership, the character Robin were introduced. A juvenile Sidkick, which multicolored costume and funny speaking lightenend the series up. From now on was Batman, whose developing history unmasked him as the millionaire son Bruce Wayne and its obsession thereby explained, which became a eight-year old witness of the murder at its parents, no more the dark avenger, he mutated to a campy comic cartoon. The climax of this development was reached in the sixties, where the Scripts became more and more ridicolous. Batman fightenend against extraterrestial aliens and monsters. The future of the Batman stood on the verge.
At the beginning of the seventies came the rescue of the series with the Illustrators Neil Adams and the Writer Dennis O’Neil. The realistic line of Adam and the dark Scripts of O’Neils makes the Batman to the Dark Knight again. The stories was concerned now with real, also social problems and made again a more convincing Batman, if one can say this of a comichero at all. In the eighties Frank Miller astonished the audience with its awarded comic The Dark Knight Returns, which was harder than every previous Batman Comic. The influence of this Comic on Batmans history was unforeseeably and in such a way Batman became in the regular series a silent, cynical loner also, a dark hero for the nineties. In the newest Serials of DC Comics Batman alias Bruce Wayne is the hero again. And in such a way the character Batman will probably change further each decade and match that spirit of time.
