Have you thought about how your Italian Greyhound will be taken care of in your absences? With just a little planning and thinking ahead you can make adequate arrangements for all your pets for the times you need to be away from them. This article will help you do some of that planning. Can your Italian Greyhound wait 10 hours to go for a walk? What if you can’t come home Wednesday nights because of a prior commitment? Anytime an Italian Greyhound owner needs to go away on vacation, stay long hours at work or has regular scheduled activities that take them away from home they must consider how their Italian Greyhound will be cared for. Your Italian Greyhound provides entertainment and companionship but is also a huge responsibility. You show respect for your Italian Greyhound by taking its needs into consideration and planning accordingly. Fortunately there are many services available to assist you in caring for your Italian Greyhound during times when you can’t personally give them the attention and care they need. What are they? Which is best for your Italian Greyhound? DAY CARE Social animals, like Italian Greyhounds, can suffer emotionally from a lack of attention. If your Italian Greyhound has access to the outdoors they will be able to relieve themselves when necessary but a house-bound Italian Greyhound will physically require a walk or you will come home to an accident on your rug and a frustrated animal. Day care centers provide the needed social stimulation most dogs crave. At the day care your Italian Greyhound will spend time with other dogs and have people looking after its physical needs. If you have a young Italian Greyhound this can be especially important as your Italian Greyhound may become destructive with a lack of supervision and an abundance of unused energy. BOARDING KENNELS If you plan to be away overnight or for longer your Italian Greyhound or may be placed in a boarding kennel. This can be expensive but will ensure your Italian Greyhound is cared for daily and overnight. IN-HOME CARE If you are comfortable leaving your Italian Greyhound at home all day you may find the in-home services of a visitor or dog walker to be sufficient and less costly while still providing personal attention. Cats and other animals may not need daily visits if you come home in the evening but will need some attention if you are away overnight or for several days. Cats prefer their own homes rather than the highly social aspect of day cares or boarding kennels. Other pets, such as birds and reptiles, will most likely do better with in-home care as well. In-home care can be as basic as someone taking your Italian Greyhound for a walk in the middle of the day or as inclusive as having a sitter stay in your home with your Italian Greyhound. Examine your situation and budget when choosing a method of care. Take your pet’s best interests in mind. If you are having someone come to your home be sure they are reputable. Licensed businesses should be insured and bonded when employees are trusted with entering and locking up your home. Keep all these things in mind. Prepare ahead for your absences, and you should be able to have peace of mind while you are away from your Greyhound and/or other pets. Author: Connie Limon.

When you walk in the door, you see a stack of papers floating around your desk, and when you go home, just as at the office, you can’t find those important papers you need so desperately to stay out of trouble or make an excuse. When you come home at night, you and your spouse argue, and your children ignore you because you just aren’t spending family time with some of the important people in your life. Does this sound familiar? Have you ever wondered why? Well, you are not managing your time accordingly so that you reap benefits and the ones you love are happy. You are not organized, so therefore how the heck can you find those important documents? Moms already have a big responsibility and when we neglect to manage our time, our responsibilities turn to chaos. Let’s face it; it is never easy to stay organized when we have busy work schedules and a family to attend to, as well as other responsibilities. The traditional individuals often store files in a filing cabinet, and clean their room and desk once every week. However, there are people out there that are spontaneous. Some of us even store documents so they are out of sight and soon find those documents are out of mind, until someone calls their attention to the papers. The key to success moms is getting your priorities straight. If you shop for groceries once per week, you can cut back time by buying enough to last longer, so that grocery shopping isn’t part of your weekly plan. The extra hour or more that you spend at the supermarket can be spent on quality time with the family. This is only one solution to managing your time, but it is certainly a start. In addition, you can make up a list of your duties, starting with the most important tasks first, and working through the list one at a time. I found this to be a great solution for managing time, since when you work hard to complete one task, the rests fall into place with ease. If you spend an hour or even one half hour in the mirror, it is probably because you are not feeling good about your self. It takes approximately five minutes to put make-up on, and to stand in the mirror longer is only taking up time. Hair is also important since our person in general sets an impression. If you spend longer time than needed doing your hair, try finding nice looking hairstyles that are less complicated to style. This is also a great process of the time management solution. Clothing should also be limited but appropriate for whatever it is that you doing and it should not take less than a couple of minutes to get dressed. Unless you are a model, or actress, overdressing is not appropriate in most cases for every day life situations. If you are spending extra time preparing meals, you might want to consider recipes that are quick and healthy to manage your time mom. These are a few simple tips of managing your time so that you can spend more time doing the things in life that is most important to you. Author: Connie Limon.

Did you know that obesity is one of the greatest health risks among Shih Tzu? Obesity is caused by excessive eating and unhealthy binges just as it is in humans. Often, this situation is triggered by some environmental factors that may lead to more problems when not controlled. Like humans, Shih Tzu develops certain diseases when they are overweight. These diseases, if not corrected, can lead to more serious complications including death. Here is a list of some of the repercussions of obesity in Shih Tzu: 1. Arthritis Obesity in Shih Tzu tends to put extra weight on their bones. In turn, the joints and other parts of the Shih Tzu’s bones develop arthritis. Excess weight in Shih Tzu may also initiate the development of other muscle and joint problems like spinal disc disease, hip dysplasia, and cracks on the joint ligaments. 2. Diabetes Like humans, Shih Tzu can get diabetes too. We all know for a fact that overweight cause diabetes in humans. This can also happen in Shih Tzu. The reason is that the more fat stored in the Shih Tzu’s body, the greater its system will generate insulin in order to cope with its growing mass. Hence, Shih Tzu has the tendency to resist too much insulin in the body. The end result is diabetes. 3. Skin problems Obesity in Shih Tzu can cause some skin problems. This is because excess fat deposits are being stored in their skin; hence, their owners are having a hard time grooming them. When Shih Tzu lacks proper grooming, there is a tendency to accumulate bacteria, dirt, or other elements that could cause harm to your Shih Tzu’s skin. In the end, they develop rashes, skin ruptures, and infections. 4. Capacity to tolerate heat With too much fat deposits accumulated in their skin, Shih Tzu are more inclined to problems concerning heat tolerance. This is because dogs find it hard to tolerate heat due to the build-up of fats in their skin. That is why most obese dogs are prone to heat stroke especially during summer time. 5. Respiratory problems and other heart diseases Like humans, obese Shih Tzu also has the tendency to develop respiratory problems and heart diseases. This is because the chest cavity is already covered with thick fat deposits. Hence, whenever the Shih Tzu breathes, the lungs are having a hard time expanding and so does the heart. The problem starts when the heart and the lungs can no longer produce the right amount of oxygen and circulate it within the dog’s body. 6. Gastrointestinal problems Obesity in Shih Tzu causes some problems in their intestines and pancreas. This problem results in an inflamed pancreas which is very painful to the Shih Tzu and can also cause death. 7. Liver problems Fats are harder to strain and this can pose a problem to the Shih Tzu’s liver. When the liver can no longer function well because of the fat deposits that accumulated in the area, liver problems may occur and may even cause the death of your Shih Tzu. These health problems are indeed life threatening. It depends upon the owner how to combat these problems in order to keep your Shih Tzu healthy. One of the greatest ways to solve weight problems is a strict exercise schedule. It is a must that owners create a healthy exercise schedule for their Shih Tzu. This can be done by taking them for a walk every afternoon or letting him run through a field. The best thing about this program is that not only the Shih Tzu gets the chance to exercise but their owners as well. So, it’s a double benefit. Next is to create a healthy diet for your Shih Tzu. Diet meals are extremely important for Shih Tzu so that they can still obtain the necessary nutrients they need in order to stay healthy. This should include the right combination of fiber, meat, vegetables, vitamins, and minerals. However, Shih Tzu owners should always keep in mind that when their Shih Tzu is taking fiber, more water should be employed so as to prevent constipation. Alternatively, Shih Tzu owners should also remember that before incorporating all of these things for your Shih Tzu, it’s best to consult the veterinarian first. For healthier and happier Shih Tzu, give them the best love and care you can plus a great dietary regimen. As they say, a healthy Shih Tzu is a happy Shih Tzu. Author: Connie Limon.

If you’re looking to lose some unwanted body fat, this article will show a few simple, proven ways to shed more fat in less time. Drink more water throughout the day. Drinking water will help you feel fuller throughout the day. You will be less likely to be hungry and less likely to snack. Try drinking an 8 ounce glass of water or flavored water before you eat. The water should help you feel less hungry so you will eat less during the meal. If you are new to drinking water each day. Start out drinking one quart of water per day. Slowly increase your water intake up to a total of 64 ounces per day. If you are not use to drinking water and then you suddenly start to drink a lot of water, you can mess up your electrolytes. So start out drinking water slowly, just as you would start an exercise program slowly and slowly increase as the days go on. Did you know you can live for weeks without food, but only a few days without water? Water is essential to overall good health and helps to carry out the toxins from the body through the urinary tract and bowels. Eat five to six small meals each day. One good rule to follow is to fuel the body with something small and nutritious every 5 hours. This helps to keep your metabolism running smoothly and efficiently, which in turn helps your body to burn more fat. If you eat one or two large meals each day will cause your metabolism to slow down. Skipping meals will cause your body to hold onto stored fat as a defense mechanism. Your body becomes unsure of when it will get its next meal. The body will conserve stored fat in case of future calorie needs. Each meal should be a combination of high protein, carbohydrates and a dash of fat. Your plate should contain more fruits and vegetables than the protein or fat. A good rule to follow with how much protein to consume at mealtime is just enough that would cover the palm of your hand. Anymore protein than this eaten at one meal will automatically turn into stored fat, which is exactly what you doesn’t want to happen. Never skip breakfast. You should eat a well-balanced breakfast within two hours of awakening from an 8 to 10 hour sleeping period. Good sleep is also important for good overall health and burning fat. Sleep that has some dreams throughout the period of sleeping is a good indication that you are getting the kind of sleep you need. High quality protein is found in foods like chicken, turkey, fish, eggs, milk and cheese. Quality carbohydrates are fruits and vegetables. Berries are especially good for antioxidants. Use breads, cereals and pasta sparingly and only as condiments. Take Fish Oil everyday. Cardiovascular workouts 3 to 4 times per week are highly recommended to help you burn fat and calories. The safest exercise for bones and joints is a moderately brisk walk, 30 minutes at least per session, and 3 to 4 times per week. Cardiovascular exercise increases your metabolic rate and helps you to burn more calories throughout the day even while you are resting. Anymore than 30 minutes per day of cardiovascular exercise can lead to overtraining. Weight train three to four times per week. Weight training helps you burn more calories and fat in the future. Weight training does not burn a sufficient amount of fat while you’re training. It is important to add lean muscle to your body. You burn more energy/calories just to maintain that lean muscle tissue. If your body has lean muscle you will burn more calories even while sleeping. The more calories you burn, the more fat you lose. This is why weight training is an important part of a weight loss program. With all exercise programs, always remember to begin slowly. Reduce your calorie intake slowly. In order to lose body fat, you need to burn more calories than you consume. Begin by reducing your daily calorie intake by 150 to 300 calories. Start cutting out extras like butter, cream, mayo, sugar and high-calorie dressings or condiments. Try using spices to add flavor to your food. As you reduce your daily calories, you should be able to observe in the mirror what effect it is having on your body composition and shape. If you don’t see results after a couple of weeks of reducing your daily calories, reduce than again by 150 to 300 calories per day. A slow, methodical drop in calories will allow you to find the number you need to keep losing fat without sacrificing lean muscle tissue. If you eat too few calories, your metabolism will also slow down and you will stop adding lean muscle tissue. Over time, you will fine the number of daily calories you need to keep losing body fat without losing lean muscle tissue. Author: Connie Limon.

When planning vacation and holiday getaways, don’t forget to plan for pet sitting. Consider using a pet sitter instead of a kennel. It allows your dog to stay in the comfort of their own home and helps the dog maintain a normal routine. The best of friends, family, and kennels, cannot offer anything better than the comfort of a pet’s own home. Also, having a trusted pet sitter in your home can help protect your home from intruders. Follow the 10 recommendations below to help you find the perfect pet sitter. Start looking well in advance of your vacation or holiday. Personal Referrals. Ask trusted friends or family members if they can recommend a pet sitter they have used. Set up a meeting in your home with each potential pet sitter. Watch how the sitter relates or interacts with your dog. Are they actively involved with the dog or are they distant or restrained around them? Does your dog want the pet sitter’s attention? If your dog and the person interviewed do not seem to click, keep interviewing until you find a good match. A reliable and dedicated sitter will take notes for the details of your unique dog routines. They should ask you questions, and be concerned of trying to maintain the same routine as the dog has been use to. If they do not ask questions or take notes from you, keep interviewing. A professional pet sitter should belong to an organization such as PSI (Pet Sitters International) or NAPPS (National Association of Professional Pet Sitters). However, remember these national organizations do not know these individuals or their reputation. Instead, ask for local affiliations and follow-up. Ask for other client references. These will help you get a clearer idea of what to expect if you hire this person. Bonding & Insurance. Bonding and insurance protects you in the case of damage or theft of your property. However, it does NOT ensure that the pet sitter is reliable, caring or trustworthy. These traits can often be determined from their former employers (references). Ask for a copy of their contract. Carefully review the details. A contract will protect you and your dog. It will also spell out exactly what you can and cannot expect from the pet sitter. It should also list the appropriate rates for all services offered. Do not hesitate to ask questions! Arrange another visit. Arrange for the pet sitter to spend some alone time with your dog. A walk is a great idea. Monitor your dog’s reaction. Is he happy and comfortable with the pet sitter? Or does he seem eager to get away from them? This also gives the pet sitter a chance to see if they can appropriately handle your dog (particularly if the dog is a large-breed, strong or very energetic). Finally, go with your gut feeling! If it doesn’t “feel” right, it’s not! Keep looking. Prepare detailed instructions for your pet sitter. Include your phone numbers of where you can be reached in the event of an emergency. You will also need to give your pet sitter the name and phone number of your vet. Prepare in advance. Following these steps will ensure the best possible pet sitting experience. Author: Connie Limon.

In North America, it is estimated that 50 to 60 percent of the population is affected by winter depression. There is a broad spectrum of symptoms that arise, from a change in sleep patterns and weight gain, to overwhelming suicidal thoughts and the unfortunate results. This means about half of the people you know are depressed in the wintertime! Wintertime depression is most common north and south of the equator. People who live near the equator have a very low incidence of winter depression. The reason for this is they live where there are enough daylight hours to avoid triggering the hormone imbalance that causes depression. What matters is the length of the day (daylight hours), not the weather. Depression in the winter is called “Seasonal Affective Disorder.” People who live in northern climates suffer because of the seasonally shortened days. Just as trees lose their leaves when the days shorten, people lose their happiness. People who live where the days shorten seasonally are victims of the brain’s chemical reaction to lesser hours of daylight. If you live in a climate where daylight hours are shortened there are a few things you can do to help overcome Season Affective Disorder. You can use light therapy to extend the hours of daylight in your day. Light therapy is the most effective depression treatment known. Sit near a small bank of lights for a couple of hours each day. You need a fixture that will hold four foot long fluorescent bulbs. Buy the best ‘grow’ lights. The kind that is best for plants. They are the closest match to the spectrum of sunlight. Do not use standard fluorescent bulbs. They are too green and will actually drain the energy out of you. Research shows the best time to treat winter depression with light therapy is early in the morning. The best time is probably the first task of the day. You could sit quietly near the lights to read uplifting material before you begin your day. In addition, try to following tips: • Stick to a daily routine. • Go to bed on time so you can do your light therapy first thing in the mornings. • Try to avoid annoying people. • Arrive at work early. Plan your day. Make a list of what you want to accomplish and check things off as you accomplish them. • Save challenging projects for when you are not fighting winter depression. • Decide that the weather not affect your mood. You cannot change the weather. • If the weather is bad, allow a little extra time to get to work. Accept the weather as it is and move on. • Improve your health. Eat healthier foods. • Exercise. Walking is one of the best exercises for depression. It is nearly impossible to think bad thoughts while you are walking briskly. • Drink plenty of water. In conclusion, don’t give up on yourself. If you still feel bad after you have done the entire above mentioned, yell for help! If you can’t talk to your family or a friend, talk to your personal physician. See a nurse in a clinic, or a psychologist. Do not keep your feelings inside. There are all kinds of help for people who suffer from any kind of depression. Author: Connie Limon.
